  • How long does it take to complete the MS in Business and Government Leadership?

    The MS in Business and Government Leadership offers two options:

    • The full-time option takes one year to complete and includes Fall, Spring and Summer terms.
    • The part-time option takes two years to complete.

    All classes are held on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

  • Is the MS in Business and Government Leadership offered online? 

    The MS in Business and Government Leadership is designed as an in-person program, available full-time and part-time.

    The MS in Business and Government Leadership courses are held Monday through Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. The format of courses offered by other schools and departments at FIU varies widely.

    The MS in Business and Government Leadership focuses on leadership at the intersection of business and government, with an emphasis on free-market principles and individual freedom. The program includes 18 credits from the Adam Smith Center, covering topics such as policy analysis, ethical decision-making, communication and the relationship between national security and economics.

    Students also complete coursework in economics and business, along with an independent project.

    Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. All applications are reviewed holistically.

    Required application materials include:

    • Official transcripts of all previously earned college or university credits
    • A personal statement or letter of intent
    • Two letters of recommendation (one from a faculty member who can speak to your academic work, and one from a supervisor who can describe your leadership skills and potential)
    • Submit an up-to-date CV or resume outlining your educational background, jobs or volunteer work, leadership roles and any awards or achievements.
    • English language proficiency per FIU's Graduate Admission requirements, if your studies were completed outside the U.S.

    Some applicants may be invited to complete a short interview. These interviews are usually conducted online using video.

  • Who can I contact about my application?

    Before submitting all application materials, you should contact FIU’s Office of Admissions with any questions. Once your file is complete, it will be shared with the Adam Smith Center for review.

  • Can I transfer credits, waive courses or pursue a dual degree?

    No. Because the program is short and highly specialized, transfer credits are not accepted, course waivers are not offered, and students cannot combine this degree with another degree.

  • How much does the MS in Business and Government Leadership cost?

    Tuition is $455.64 per credit hour for Florida residents and $1,056.29 per credit hour for out-of-state students.

  • Are scholarships available?

    The Adam Smith Center offers a limited number of competitive, merit-based scholarships and all admitted students are automatically considered. Scholarships are provided as tuition waivers, though students are responsible for other costs and fees.

    Recipients are required to serve as graduate course assistants or research assistants and full details are included in the award letter.
