These programs are free and open to the general public. The lectures
are generally geared to non-scientists and people who are
curious about the nature of the world they live in and typically last an hour.
Origin of the Universe September 25, 2009 @ 8:00 pm. in Room CP 145. Dr. James R. Webb talks about the current theories of cosmology, concentrating on new ideas of how the Big Bang actually began. Refreshments are available before the talk and telescopes will be set up to look at Jupiter afterward if weather permits.
Origin of the Earth October 30, 2009, 8:00 pm in CP 145. Dr. Grenville Draper from the FIU Geology Department will talk about the orgin and structure of the Earth. Refreshments are available before the talk and telescopes will be set up afterards if weather permits.
The Future of Life on Earth November 13, 2009, 8:00 pm in CP 145. Drs. Webb and Draper and Guests will discuss the future of Life on Earth from a scientific point of view. CP 145, MM Campus 8:00 pm. Refreshments will be available before the talk and observing afterwards if weather permits.
End of Semester Star Party December 4, 2009, 8:00 pm in CP 145. Music, telescope, munchies, astronomers! The fun starts at 8:00 pm and will feature a "NASA update", door prizes, and a concert. As usual, munchies and telescope will be set up.
