I am a PhD candidate in the Earth Sciences Department at Florida International University. I am interested in diatom taxonomy and diatom-based quantitative reconstructions of past environmental conditions in estuaries and seas.  On the right site you can see me collecting some sediments somewhere in Florida Bay. This and many, many other samples from this area will be used to develop a model that will hopefully allow me to explain how the environmental conditions changed over time and how much humans and the changing climate contributed to those alterations.
