DESCRIPTION: Visitation with residents, one on one; Silver Spoons Feeding
Program; nursing; social work; pastoral care
HOURS NEEDED: Seven days a week
COMMENTS: Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. 75-hour commitment.
Orientation is held the second Saturday of each month except December.
VITAS

DESCRIPTION: Vitas offers terminally ill patients and their families a
support system to deal with their illness in a dignified and caring way.
OPPORTUNITIES: Caring individuals needed in various hospitals, nursing
homes, and patients' homes to help people who are terminally ill for friendly
visiting, respite care, home assistance, etc. Opportunities all over Miami-Dade
County. After attending 8-hour training session, you will be placed as
close to your home as possible.
HOURS NEEDED: Flexible schedule, program operates 24 hours a day. Patients
can be visited Mon.-Sun. from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
COMMENTS: This is a wonderful opportunity that guarantees great experience
and meaningful work that will enrich your life. Trainings are held one
Saturday a month (call immediately to find out about upcoming trainings!).
After training, you will be placed according to your schedule and location.
Cathy loves M-DCC students and will take great care of you. A commitment
of at least 2 hours per week for at least one semester is required! *VITAS
is now in partnership with AmeriCorps. If student devotes 20 hrs/wk (900
hrs/yr), they are eligible to receive a volunteer award of $2,300
