DESCRIPTION: This program aims to reduce crime and re-arrest rates in our community by assisting ex-offenders with job training and job opportunities. It operates at all correctional facilities throughout Dade County.
OPPORTUNITIES: Visit/Inform inmates in local jails and prisons regarding the employment opportunities available to inmates through Transition. Lead small group discussions, Teach Employability Skills Training to ex-offenders in a classroom setting as they prepare to re-enter society. Tutor G.E.D. or pre-release class at a state prison.
ORIENTATION: Two hours for new volunteers as well as on-the-job training and supervision. Group orientations are held once a month from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Call for the next orientation session.
HOURS NEEDED: To be determined with volunteer.
COMMENTS: This is a wonderful learning opportunity, however, due to the amount of training and the need for consistent & dedicated help, a minimum of 4-6 month commitment is required from all volunteers. Participants need to provide their own transportation with this type
