DESCRIPTION: The mission is to seek the best educational experience for
homeless children and youth in collaboration with parents, schools, and
community through opening doors to academic opportunities, removing barriers,
and promoting a healthy sense of self. The program provides tutorial and
community services, self-esteem enhancement and parental involvement activities.
Services are offered all over Miami-Dade County at homeless shelters and
other centers (e.g., Miami Bridge, Homeless Assistance Center, Safespace
Shelter, Salvation Army, New Life Family Center, Esperanza Center, Emergency
Housing North and South (Florida City), Cottages of Naranja, etc.).
OPPORTUNITIES: 1) Tutoring writing, reading, and math at one of the sites
listed above (North Dade to Florida City). 2) Administrative assistance
in main (Downtown) office (clerical, research, etc.). Special events planning,
public relations. 3) Help write/design program brochures & newsletter.
HOURS NEEDED: Tutoring at one of the 14 sites, 3 - 6pm, Monday - Thursday.
