DSCRIPTION: Assisted living facility for the elderly with approximately
270 residents in a combined Kendall location.
OPPORTUNITIES: Wonderful opportunities exist to work directly with the
residents--planning and facilitating programs/activities--depending on
your schedule and interests! This beautiful facility is only minutes from
M-DCC and promises an academically and personally rewarding experience!
HOURS NEEDED: Thursday - Sunday, 10:00am - 5pm, some evenings available
as well.
COMMENTS: Ms. Fernandez asks for a minimum of two hours a week. This is
a great opportunity for responsible students who love working with people.

DESCRIPTION: Parrot Jungle and Gardens, is a world famous bird sanctuary,
wildlife habitat and lush botanical garden. Jungle Habitat is a non-profit
entity that works closely with Parrot Jungle & Gardens in creating
educational programs for children and adults that utilize the park setting
and provide unique learning opportunities with focus on under-served groups
and special needs children.
OPPORTUNITIES: Assistance is needed in two areas: from reptiles to primates.
1) Education Department: Assist in the development of new educational
programs. Service-learners would participate in research, development,
and presentation of designed programs along with the staff of Parrot Jungle.
In addition, horticulture (plant) programs are available. 2) Training
Department: Opportunities exist in various exhibit areas of the park ranging
between the hours of 9:30am-6:oopm. Service learners would gain experience
in animal husbandry and human interactions. This opportunity requires
a commitment of at least 1 semester due to the required training and the
student must be 18 years of age. In addition a TB test will be required
if the student is to work near primates.
HOURS: Varied-schedule shifts 2 hours in length on any day (Monday-Sunday)
COMMENTS: This is a unique and exciting opportunity for persons interested
in recreation, education, biology, environmental science and wildlife.
