DADE PARKS INTERPRETIVE SERVICES/THE NATURE CENTER, A.D. Barnes Park

DESCRIPTION: Provides environmental education and outdoor recreation to
the general public.
OPPORTUNITIES: Help with restoration and maintenance of natural areas
at A.D. Barnes Park. Assist with quarterly magazine publication. Help
is also needed to develop and produce park programming.
HOURS NEEDED: Monday-Friday from 9am - 4pm. Some weekend/evening opportunities
as well.
COMMENTS: Call Mr. Aleman and he'll get you started.
MIAMI
BEACH HISPANIC COMMUNITY CENTER YOUTH PROGRAM, 7251 Collins Avenue,
Miami Beach, FL 33141

DESCRIPTION: Involves youth in civic oriented activities and creates a
sense of community pride. Promote self-sufficiency that encourages youth
to take care of themselves and their community.
OPPORTUNITIES: Tutoring, counseling, coaching, helping in community activities,
talking about own experiences to participants, and being role models.
HOURS NEEDED: M, W, 6:00-8:00pm and Sat., 4:00-7:00pm
MIAMI-DADE
PARKS, ADOPT A NATURAL AREA, Park and Rec. Dept.

DESCRIPTION: Miami-Dade Parks maintains 6,000 acres of pinelands, wetlands,
hammocks, mangrove forests, seashores, and other natural areas.
OPPORTUNITIES: Volunteers are needed to help maintain these areas, including
removing trash and exotic plants and helping with general restoration
at places such as Ned Glenn, Kendall Indian Hammock and Orchid Jungle.
Other opportunities include site monitoring, general office work, historical
research, and fund raising.
HOURS NEEDED: Saturdays at various sites from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Call
Natural area management office for exact dates and locations.
COMMENTS: For volunteer workdays, all individuals should come dressed
to work in the woods. Closed-toe shoes are mandatory. Long pants and a
long-sleeved shirt are strongly recommended. All groups of 10 or more
must call Debbie in advance to sign up. Individuals do not have to pre-register.
A three-hour minimum commitment is necessary for volunteer workdays.
