MENTORING
RESOURCE CENTER, (County Wide)

DESCRIPTION: Mentoring Resource Center represents over 50+ agencies that
provide mentoring services to children and adults in need. All types of
mentoring opportunities are available: one-on-one, group mentoring, and
school based mentoring.
OPPORTUNITIES: If you are interested in becoming a mentor but don't know
which program to choose, call Ms. Brink. She will put you in contact with
the program that best meets your needs and schedule. Various time commitments
are available throughout the county. Volunteer trainings are also available
depending upon the agency you choose.
HOURS NEEDED: A minimum of 3 months is required. Mentoring Resource Center
will help you select an agency whose time requirements fit with yours.
COMMENTS: Mentoring Resource Center will help find the right agency for
you. All types of mentoring opportunities are available throughout the
county with a variety of time requirements
MERCY

DESCRIPTION: A 512-bed hospital with high technology and a very knowledgeable
and caring group of professionals--both staff and volunteers.
OPPORTUNITIES: Wide variety of services needed - in the health, retail,
and business fields.
HOURS NEEDED: Flexible, seven days a week, minimum of 40 hours required,
TB test will be provided by the hospital. A health form needs to be signed
by your family physician. Will work around students' schedules.
COMMENTS: Please call to schedule an appointment. A uniform is required.
METRO
DADE ANIMAL SERVICES, 7401 NW 74 Street, Miami, FL

DESCRIPTION: Code enforcement, animal care and pick up, veterinary care,
and adoption.
OPPORTUNITIES: Lost and found, animal companion, and community education.

METRO
DADE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT, Countywide opportunities. Main

DESCRIPTION: Maintains a comprehensive system of parks, zoological areas,
cultural facilities, historic buildings, and recreational spaces. The
park system has five regions with over 250 neighborhood parks.
OPPORTUNITIES: Opportunities include assisting in recreational activities
in neighborhood & community parks for children &/or adults. Assist
in a variety of indoor & outdoor recreation activities such as team
and individual games, sports, swimming, arts & crafts, tutoring, dance,
singing, storytelling, coaching, refereeing/umpiring, teaching sportsmanship,
etc. Help is also needed in the office.
HOURS NEEDED: Generally Monday-Friday from 2-9pm depending on the park.
Some parks need help on Saturdays too.
COMMENTS: Call Ms. Hill and she will place you at a park near your house.
She will also arrange an orientation. She may be hard to reach so don't
give up--leave a message and keep calling. She will give you an assignment
related to your interests.
