DESCRIPTION: The mission of the Humane Society of Greater Miami is to
serve and protect the animals of Miami-Dade County by providing human
care, shelter, compassion and love. The Society provides education regarding
the responsibility and commitment of pet ownership and advocates the elimination
of cruelty, neglect, and pet overpopulation. The Society is a nonprofit
organization, funded solely by private donations, bequests and fund-raising
activities.
OPPORTUNITIES: In-house Volunteer/ Kennel Assistant- Assist HSGM staff
with general maintenance and operations of the adoptions area of HSGM.
This will include bathing dogs, cleaning cages, walking dogs and customer
service. In-house Volunteer/ Administration- Assist HSGM staff with general
administrative and office work. This would include filing, answering phones;
follow up phone calls for adoptions. In-house Volunteer/ Maintenance-
Assist HSGM staff with general maintenance and repair work needed within
and around the shelter. This would include painting, organizing donated
cat & dog food in the garage. If you have a group that would like
to take on a project you would just need to contact June Spinelli to coordinate
and organize the project. We ask that all large groups have an orientation
about the Humane Society Of Greater Miami so everyone involved in the
project understands the mission.
HOURS NEEDED: Monday - Saturday, 10am - 6pm. The required time needed
from the volunteers will depend upon the project. If one person would
like to assist with cleaning the kennels that would need to be scheduled
and the volunteer would be needed between 8am-10am. Group projects usually
start after 10am.
COMMENTS: Anyone who loves animals and is interested in helping to make
a difference in homeless animals lives should contact June Spinelli. It
is not glamorous work, but it is very rewarding and includes the unconditional
love given from the animals. Orientation is required and we ask all volunteers
to purchase a blue or yellow HSGM T-shirt. Orientations are once a month
at the Humane Society Of Greater Miami's main shelter. Please call in
advance for the exact time and date of the orientation..
