HABITAT
FOR HUMANITY OF GREATER MIAMI,

DESCRIPTION: Works towards the elimination of substandard living conditions
in the Greater Miami area by building houses in partnership with low-income
families. The houses are then sold at no-profit and no-interest.
OPPORTUNITIES: Construction assistance--no previous experience necessary,
just a desire to help at work sites around the county. Fund raising, marketing,
computers, administrative/office help is occasionally needed in the Dadeland
office (Mondays - Fridays). Habitat currently has projects in South Dade
and North Dade.
HOURS NEEDED: Homebuilding assistance needed Tuesday - Saturday from 7:45
a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers are especially needed on weekdays. Bring
a lunch.
COMMENTS: If you are going as a group, you must call George Campbell first
to reserve a spot. Group/class projects can be arranged. All skill levels
welcome and needed. Volunteers must bring tools. Call George Campbell
for details. Donations of building materials and money are needed as well.
There is a special need for volunteers with construction skills, and for
Spanish speaking office volunteers. Working with Habitat is both rewarding
and educational.

DESCRIPTION: Provides comprehensive quality day training and residential
services to people with developmental disabilities.
OPPORTUNITIES: Help with recreational activities & reading to clients.
HOURS NEEDED: Varies
COMMENTS: A minimum 20-hour commitment is required.
HEALTHSOUTH

DESCRIPTION: The Volunteer Services Department strives to meet the needs
of the hospital by providing volunteers who offer an extra dimension of
care and service for patients, their families, visitors, and staff.
OPPORTUNITIES: Recovery room, recreation therapy, operating room, sports
medicine/x-ray, physical therapy, nursing stations, and emergency room.
HOURS NEEDED: Flexible, with some weekend opportunities as well. Minimum
20-hour requirement per semester.
COMMENTS: You must have had a PPD test in the past year (the Hospital
will administer this if you need it), and you must purchase a tee-shirt/uniform
that will cost you $15.
