DESCRIPTION: Dedicated to the historic preservation of Miami-Dade County and its culture. Sponsors many activities such as lectures, tours, Miami-Dade Heritage Day, educational presentations/projects with schools, etc.
OPPORTUNITIES: Assist in all areas mentioned above. Also assist with committee work, community cultural events, event planning.
HOURS NEEDED: Flexible. Some evenings and weekends are available.
COMMENTS: This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in historic preservation and Miami-Dade's history.

DESCRIPTION: Collects edible but otherwise wasted food primarily from the food industry and community food drives, and distributes it to over 1000 charitable organizations that feed hungry people.
OPPORTUNITIES: Learn about food distribution and helping the needy in South Florida. Help out with warehouse food salvage & food handling, clerical/administrative work, grant writing, media contacts, and special projects.
HOURS NEEDED: Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm. Long term or short term is ok, however you must schedule in advance and go in for a minimum of 2 hours each time.
COMMENTS: Call Ann and arrange an orientation. This food bank distributed over 15 million pounds of food last year!

OPPORTUNITIES: Offering patient contact, hospitability centers or patient support areas including: admitting, emergency, human resources, pharmacy, radiology, patient units, medical records, and physical therapy.
HOURS NEEDED: Flexible
COMMENTS: Volunteers must attend a six and a half hour orientation, which is generally held the second Monday of the month. Call for an interview.

DEPT.OF CHILDREN & FAMILIES, 201 West Broward Boulevard, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33301

DESCRIPTION: Helps meet the basic need of clients ranging from child abuse to working with the elderly.
OPPORTUNITIES: Assist in the economic services, working in the legal dept, working with the fiscal dept to determine budgeting needs.
HOURS NEEDED: M-F, 8:00am-5:00pm
COMMENTS: Must commit to at least three months of working with the agency with at least one hour pe
r week.
