DESCRIPTION: Provides prevention and educational services to residents
to encourage a drug-free positive lifestyle through summer camps, essay
contests, Safety Kids production, and other events with a drug-free theme.
OPPORTUNITIES: Assist with the coordination and planning of activities
and projects; help tutor and mentor at-risk youth; utilize the library
to research grants and other funding opportunities; obtain leadership
skills through workshops/seminars.
HOURS NEEDED: 9:00am - 5:00pm, some weekend and evening hours are
available.
COMMUNITY FRIENDS, SPONSORED BY MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION OF BROWARD

DESCRIPTION: Volunteers are paired with an adult who has been diagnosed
with mental illness.
OPPORTUNITIES: To enhance the life of an individual who might otherwise
not have very much social experience.
HOURS NEEDED: Volunteers spend 1-2 hours per week with a friend
- talking on the phone, visiting, etc. Commitment needs to be for at least
six months. All volunteers are in Broward County. Psychology students
are very much encouraged to volunteer.
