DESCRIPTION: Centro Mater is a childcare center with day care (Head
Start) and after school programs. It also provides social services for
residents in the area.
OPPORTUNITIES: Assist in day care/early childhood education/Head
Start and child development programs; after school care with children
ages 5-14; teacher's aides; administrative/clerical/data entry & word
processing/computer help in the social work department.
HOURS NEEDED: Anytime, 8:00 - 6:00 pm, Monday - Friday
COMMENTS: Choose hours that are convenient to your schedule. Volunteers
that like to work with children are needed. Bilingual volunteers are also
needed. Call for an interview & orientation. Proof of TB test and
a physical exam may be required for anyone volunteering on a long-term
basis with Head Start. Training is available for student volunteers interested
in working with special needs children. Madeline is desperate for any
volunteers!
CENTER

DESCRIPTION: Serves people with disabilities of all ages.
OPPORTUNITIES: Assist disabled staff to advocate for individuals
wit disabilities, read materials to them and provide clerical support.
Escort disabled young adults on community field trips such as picnics,
movies, and beaches.
HOURS NEEDED: Flexible
COMMENTS: This is an excellent opportunity to interact with individuals
who are disable and learn abut the day to day issues of living wit a disability.

OPPORTUNTIES: Mentor one to one. Willing to commit two hours per
week for a minimum of one year.
