DESCRIPTION: Art Center/South Florida's mission is to advance the
knowledge and practice of contemporary visual arts in South Florida. The
organization is committed to supporting visual artists and making art
accessible and relevant to the lives of community residents and visitors.
The mission is manifested through our three program components; the Juried
Artist Program, our exhibition season, and our multiple education programs.
Based in our three historic buildings on Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, Art
Center exists to provide affordable workspace for outstanding visual artists
in all stages of career development. Exhibitions of contemporary art are
presented year-round in our public gallery spaces and display windows.
Art Center has received recognition from local media such as New Times,
which in 1997 called us the "best gallery in Miami", and from
national media such as The Wall Street Journal, which in 1998 reported
that our "presence has transformed the area around the center into
a hub of commerce."
OPPORTUNITIES: Clerical/office work - Help with administration
of Art Studies and other educational programs, mailing of special events
announcements, and data, entry. Help host and coordinate ArtSmart program,
a series of monthly artists' lectures. Gallery Docent - welcome visitors
to our public gallery and artists' studios; provide general information
about the Art Center, its programs, artists, and exhibits to visitors.
Host/hostess for openings of art exhibitions and other special events.
HOURS NEEDED: Gallery Docents - Wednesday through Sunday, 1:00pm
to 11:00pm (3 shifts: 1-4pm, 4-7:30pm, 7:30-11pm). Office Hours - Monday
through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.
COMMENTS: Learn more about art and its social impact while providing
a needed community service. Learn from an administrative perspective about
how a not-for-profit organization functions. We are seeking dedicated
and
enthusiastic individuals willing to fulfill their commitments.
AVOCADO
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, 16969 SW 294 Street, Homestead, FL 33030

DESCRIPTION: Avocado Elementary School is a magnet school for the
gifted program grades K-3. It also has regular classes and programs for
grades K-5.
OPPORTUNITIES: Spend one hour or more a week working with one child
or with a classroom. Serve as a role model and friend, and assist with
homework, playing games, reading, listening, etc. Tutoring is also needed
for after-school care program.
HOURS NEEDED: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (school days).
After-school care program hours: 3:30 - 6:00.
COMMENTS: This school will match your skills and talents with their
needs and is looking forward to having help. Must commit to at least one
hour per week.
