DESCRIPTION: The central library (JFK) and branch (Lua A. Curtiss) are community focused and maintain broad and relevant materials in a variety of formats. The library has recently developed a Comprehensive Literacy Program, including individual and small group tutoring for adults, children, and families. Our Literacy Initiative addresses the overwhelming need for literary services in Hialeah. MISSION - "By providing the means by which people of all ages, interests, nationalities, and circumstances may avail themselves of recorded wisdom, experience and ideas of others, the City of Hialeah Library Division promotes the education, recreation and information needs of its community, and contributes to its culture."
OPPORTUNITIES: Develop a Monthly Calendar of Events- Must have computer background, good writing skills, and has to be organized and detail orientated individual. Help coordinate literary events and workshops- Organized and creative individual, basic knowledge of computers, Bilingual (Spa/Eng) preferred. Provide assistance to patrons in the computer lab- Must be proficient in Microsoft Windows and have experience with the Internet, service orientated individual, bilingual preferred (Span/Eng). Perform outreach work with day care centers and schools- Pleasant speaking voice, fluent in English and Spanish, must have basic computer knowledge, resourceful and organized individual. Plan and execute story times for "Family Nights" (Tuesday nights)- Must feel comfortable reading aloud to a group of adults and children, and be a creative, fun-loving, organized individual. Reader for Dial-A-Story- Must have a clear speaking voice, bilingual preferred (Spa/Eng).
HOURS NEEDED: Monday - Thursday 10am - 9pm; Friday and Saturday 9:30am - 5pm. Minimum of 1 hour per week.
