Dedicated to Community-Oriented Policing

The FIU Police Department is dedicated to improving the quality of life for our community while at the same time reducing fear of crime on campus. To accomplish this, we have adopted a Community-Oriented Policing (COP) philosophy specifically designed to identify and resolve problems within our community.

COP consists of two complementary basic fundamentals: community partnerships and problem solving. FIU police officers know that positive community contacts lead to effective communication. This builds and maintains a mutual trust that is paramount for the goal of community partnerships.

With this broadened police perspective, FIU police officers are enhancing the quality of life for the FIU community through a variety of approaches such as Bicycle Patrol, Operation Bookstamp, community barbecues, self-defense workshops, crime prevention seminars, surveys of civilian satisfaction with police service, officer initiated projects, etc.
