Ways to Fall Back in Love with Being a Leader

  1. Design a project that has a deep meaning for you.
This is a way of re-connecting with those instinctive impulses which first pulled you from the shadows of inactions into the bright lights of direct action. Develop a project that is personal.

  2. Take a new initiative to communicate with your advisor and your fellow leaders.
Let your advisor know how things are going, where the problems are, what your achievements have been, and what your short and long term objectives are.

  3. Repair a bad relationship.
Just about everyone has had to work with someone who is a pain. It always helps to find some common ground as a way of building towards a more harmonious relationship.

  4. Give some work away.
Let go of what is driving you crazy.

  5. Ask for feedback.
Check-in with friends and advisors. The more eyes and brains looking at a problem, the more complete the picture.

  6. Get unpleasant task out of the way and throw one irrelevant task away.
Take one of your least favorite tasks on your ever-growing "To Do" list and just DO IT- get it over with. Look carefully at what you think you have to do, and what, if it goes undone, only your overactive conscience would notice. Toss it in the trash.

  7. Don't forget to play now and then.
Executive recreation, calculated whimsy, serious fun- whatever you'd like to call it, do it.

  8. Look for opportunities to collaborate more.
Team up with a club, organization, or friend on a project.

  9. Take care of your body and soul.
Don't let the demands of your responsibilities (perceived or otherwise) come between your and your own health and wellness, both physical and spiritual.

  10. Have a positive diversion.
Don't forget to keep nurturing those other aspects of yourself. Keep writing, painting, reading, jogging, swimming, taking classes - whatever it is that you feel that can channel that inner energy, and anxiety in a positive direction.
