Productivity in the construction of Liberty Ships. The graph plots the average across all yards of manhours and construction time for all ships delivered in a given month.

Construction time of Liberty ships in selected yards. because yards entered at different times, the average acoss all yards (above) underestimates the increases in production speed attained by individual yards.

Manhours per ship for vessels built in new yards. These data are organized by rounds of the ways. Manhours on the first [second, third, . . ] round of the way is the average labor requirement for the first [second, third, . . ] ship built on each way. Note that some other vessel types experienced declines in labor requirements even more marked than Liberty ships.
