Visa Requirements
American students coming to Belgium for more than 90 days have to apply
for a visa at the Belgian embassy. For information on student visa
regulations go to: http://www.diplobel.org/usa/
Health Insurance
A health insurance covering most of medical costs of non-European Union
students costs around 40 Euros/month. Moreover, it is highly recommended
to subscribe to a second health insurance in order to cover costs in case
of hospitalization. Such an insurance costs around 90 Euros/year.
Additional information will be given in the course of the year to
students coming to Liège.
Housing
For students who are going to stay in Liège for two semesters, we
recommend that they first stay in one of the University halls of residence
or hostel (prices are ranging from 25 Euros to 125 Euros/week) for
approximately two weeks in order to have sufficient time to find private
lodging downtown. Since looking for private accommodation can take some
time, it is recommended to arrive in Liège one or two weeks before the
courses start. It is possible to find private rooms with shared kitchen
and shower for around 185 Euros (that is what we call a " kot "
here). For those who would like to rent a room with private kitchen and
shower, price will be around 273 Euros. For those students who would only
be staying in Liège for one semester, the best solution is to rent a room
in one of the University halls of residency. Prices in such halls are
around 1250 Euros/semester (see also the information available on the
University of Liège web page: (http://www.ulg.ac.be/foreign/accommodation.html).
Living Expenses
To meet everyday living expenses (lodging included), a student will need
to have around 620 Euros at his/her disposal (note that this is a middle
to low standard estimate, 745 Euros would allow a more comfortable way of
living). In addition to this, one should take into account the
study-related costs (course books, etc.) which usually amount to around
250 Euros per year. For more information, you may contact: Eric.Florence@ulg.ac.be
