Objectives.
This reading seminar will provide opportunities for students
to read widely in the field of family history. In addition to secondary
sources, students will be able to analyze documents
from Latin
American archives detailing aspects of domestic life as refracted through
judicial
systems.
Students will incorporate the use of technologies to analyze documents
and present them digitally.
Original documents will be used to analyze the historical
context of Spanish America’s
politically turbulent first half of the nineteenth century. Secondary
readings will provide the historical setting through which to discuss
the documents and the era.
Requirements.
Significant
computer use is required, along with a good reading knowledge of Spanish.
Specialized academic software application and traning are required
for the weekly
discussions of reading assignments
and for the historical analyses.
