The South Florida Hydrologic Society (SFHS) is a non-profit, professional society, established to provide:

    A forum for the exchange of information related to the unique groundwater and surface water hydrology of South Florida;
    • Professional networking opportunities for students, scientists, consultants, regulators, and utilities;
    • Professional development through mentoring and education;
    • Outreach to the general public on South Florida-related hydrologic issues.

SFHS has been invited to participate in Suncoast Community High School's second annual “Career Showcase” on Friday, January 8, 2010 from 7:30 – 11:30AM. Suncoast is a top-10 school nationally and has magnet programs in math, science, engineering, and computer science.

Distinguished Lectures:
After serving as south Florida host for the last 5 out of 6 Geological Society of America Birdsall-Dreiss Distinguished Lectures in Hydrogeology and 3 of the last 5 National Ground Water Association's Darcy Lectures, the Department of Earth and Environment at FIU is pleased to announce that it will host the 2010 Darcy lecture on January 8 and the Birdsall-Dreiss lecture on February 12.

Dr Tim Scheibe from Pacific Northwest Laboratory will present the Darcy leture "Quantifying Flow and Reactive Transport in the Heterogeneous Subsurface Environment: From Pores to Porous Media and Facies to Aquifers". An announcement is here.

For the Birdsall-Dreiss lecture, Dr Susan Hubbard from Lawerence Berkeley National Laboratory will present "Towards X-Ray Vision: Geophysical Signatures of Complex Subsurface Processes." Find an announcement here
