Suzanne Onorato

This past October, Suzanne Onoroato was recognized with one of the Division’s Distinguished Performance Awards for Bright Idea.

The 2007 Women Who Lead conference became a benchmark leadership event under the direction of Suzanne Onorato, Associate Director of FIU’s Women’s Center. After six months of planning, 20 guest speakers, and 350 participants, the Women Who Lead conference brought together faculty, staff, and the local community to inspire, motivate, and help college aged women develop a strategic leadership development plan for their future, while connecting them to professional community resources. Through keynote speakers and breakout panels, this half-day conference connected women of all ages through dialogue. In the words of a nominator, “This program not only educated and promoted leadership among female students, it also provided an opportunity for the university community to work together to prepare students to be contributing members of society.”

The Women Who Lead Conference is just one accomplishment of Suzanne and the staff of the Women’s Center. Suzanne has served in the Women’s Center since December, 2004 and prior to that worked in Housing and Residential Life since June, 2000. She is currently pursuing her Doctoral degree in Higher Education. Suzanne earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and her Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Massachusetts.
