The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to work with our newest SGA Presidents, Anthony Rionda and Sholom Neistein. Anthony and Sholom are the elected leaders charged with representing the needs of FIU students and allocating an approximately 11 million dollar budget to departments, clubs and organizations who provide student activities and services.

Anthony A. Rionda is the President of the Student Government Association (SGA) at FIU-University Park Campus. He is a senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in history and a certificate in Cuban and Cuban-American Studies. As head of SGA, he represents the interests of FIU students and is involved in managing and allocating an approximately $11 million dollar budget. He has served the FIU Honors College, Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society and Student Government in various positions of leadership.  Anthony was born and raised in Miami, and is a graduate of Christopher Columbus High School and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

Anthony was first introduced to SGA as the Lectures Chair where he succeeded to bring to a varied panel of speakers which included Jeff Crowin from Animal Planet. From there, he was picked to lead the SGA Cabinet and the Chief Justice where he was credited to streamlining many of the positions. Lastly, he was elected in Spring 2009 to lead the University Park-SGA, where is major goals are; helping the campus Go Green, transparency of the budget and help bridge student to academics to name a few.

Sholom Neistein is entering his first semester as Biscayne Bay Campus Student Government President.  Currently a junior majoring in biology and psychology, Sholom plans on attending medical school upon graduation at FIU, with aspirations to one day become a doctor and open his own clinic. Not only is Sholom serving as SGA President, he is also a member of the FIU Foundation Board of Directors.

In his early tenure as President, Sholom has managed to solidify a diverse and nearly full council with a total of 34 members.  In addition, Sholom has already achieved one of his goals, providing free printing for students at the Wolfe University Center Computer lab.  Shalom has set high standards for himself as SGA President by hoping to achieve many goals, including increasing the SGA exposure at the FIU Pines Center, revamping the SGA website and advising students on what SGA does for them.
