The FIU-Bowling Green State University (BGSU) Student Exchange Program officially kicked off in 2004 when a few FIU students visited BGSU. The purpose behind the trip was to experience a new culture and institution. Dr. Helen Ellison and Dr. Carolyn Palmer, faculty member at BGSU, initially organized the program.
Within a few months, the exchange became a student-driven practicum option led by SAGA (Student Affairs Graduate Association) and BGSU’s College Student Personnel program. The exchange now consists of a one week practicum project which includes common readings, class participation, learning outcomes, and a site visit to a local college or university.
This year, students visited The University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. In March 2009, 11 students from the Higher Education Administration program participated in the exchange.

Based on the evaluations, students felt that they benefited most from the site visit and practicum assignments in new areas of Student Affairs. We look forward to hosting students from BGSU on our campus next spring.
