Five students from the Biscayne Bay Campus, six students from the University Park Campus and two advisors attended the third annual Florida International Leadership Conference (FILC) in Altoona, FL from Feb. 6-8. FILC was home to over 120 international and U.S study abroad students from schools all over Florida, representing more than 75 countries. This inspiring conference provides students a unique leadership training experience by challenging them with teambuilding exercises and presentation/discussion sessions on a variety of topics ranging from global leadership, to intercultural communication, to worldwide social networking.
Throughout the weekend, participants had many opportunities to network and meet lifelong friends from across the state and the world through social activities such as kayaking, bonfires, sand volleyball games, and a dance party.
The diverse BBC group included international students from South Korea, Japan and Ecuador, and domestic students who studied abroad in China and the Dominican Republic.
Before the conference, the group met to share their photos, stories and creativity to design a poster that ended up winning first place in the College Pride Poster Competition!
The students returned with very positive feedback about the conference and some already plan on applying to be peer leaders at FILC next year. We would like to recognize their hard work and their commitment to leadership and diversity.
