Faculty, staff and students gathered on September 11, 2008 at the Biscayne Bay Campus to focus on peace. The new Peace Pole, a gift from the Student Government Association, was dedicated during a ceremony highlighting proclamations of peace expressed by students and ministers of various faiths.
Overlooking the newly titled “Peace Pond”, those attending the dedication were given miniature, wooden peace poles in honor of the ceremony. Interfaith Chaplain, Linnea Pearson led the line of guest speakers.
BBC SGA President, Ana Maria Silva closed the dedication ceremony with moving words of inspiration and hope. In a final show of unity, each speaker took hold of a piece of ribbon that had been attached to the top of the peace pole, forming a circle around the pole. In unison, each speaker cut a portion of ribbon to conclude the dedication. |
