Art as a process frequently is visual and tactile in nature. It is part of the daily experience of a young child. Blended with music, movement, drama, math, science and literacy the children’s experience unfolds. The children’s artwork is currently on display at the Children’s Creative Learning Center’s (CCLC) 30th Annual Art Exhibit. The show runs from May 5th until June 13th. If you haven’t spotted the exhibit yet, take a look in the GC Gallery. The pieces are documented through photographs, text, print, mixed media, and sculptural forms. Images emerge which offer each viewer a glimpse into the perspective of a young child. Be sure to peruse the interesting pieces located in the cases outside the bookstore as well as along the corridor windows where you’ll find recycled water bottles decorated with various objects and beading.

The CCLC has been home to the youngest students on campus and this fall ushers in its 34th year. The Center’s mission to provide a welcoming, secure, and diverse environment, focusing on verbal communication to enhance the children’s ability to be in touch with their different feelings. The development of self concept, self reliance, decision making, conflict resolution, respect and consideration for others, social skills, and sound early education best practice are all part of the commitment the staff makes on behalf of the families and their children who “experience the world of a child”. The CCLC is a department within the Division of Student Affairs and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
