The 2008 King Day of Service was held Saturday, January 19. The event was part of several Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration activities in which the FIU community participated. Over 700 volunteers came together in Miami-Dade County during the MLK weekend to serve the community as part of an eight, multi-project Day of Service. Over 100 FIU students volunteered with the Town Park Village Beautification and Gardening Project where they painted, planted trees, and helped to restore an historic black neighborhood. The event received press coverage, including a spot on that night's Channel 7 news.
