Start of Hurricane Season Serves as Reminder to Prepare The Atlantic hurricane season officially began June 1 and goes until November 30. The Office of Emergency Management of the University is charged with planning for the potential threat of a hurricane, among other emergencies, which may impact the University. The mission of the Office of Emergency Management is to work to mitigate, plan and prepare for emergencies; educate the FIU community about preparedness; coordinate emergency response and recovery efforts and collect and disseminate critical information.
