Summer 2008 Syllabus

IMPORTANT!  For homework, I want you to include the syntax (commands) in the output.
Here is how you do it.  Echo Back Commands.

Turn in homework in class or during the week, leave it in my mailbox outside of the
Statistics Office in DM404  in the box labeled Johnson.  I will grade it and email you to
pick it up in the brown envelope on the floor outside my office door, DM409D.
Last Day to turn in homework is Thursday, June 19, 5 PM.

Exercises         Lesson 19, Ex. 1,2 - In addition, make a sum-like score that has a value no matter how many
                                  missing values there are (mathatt2).  Print out all data using ANALYZE / REPORTS
                                  / Case Summaries.

                         Lesson 19, Ex. 3-5 - Put variable and value labels on the new variables and print out
                                 frequencies  of the new variables.  MUST HAVE VALUES ON GROUP FREQUENCIES!  

NOTE: NO CLASS MAY 16

May 23             16A-18A, 20, 21    Graphing. Descriptive statistics for qualitative and quantitative
                                                 data. Z scores.
Exercises         Lesson 20, Ex. 1-8.  You must write Participants' sections.
                         Lesson 21, Ex. 1-5.  Print out the data and percentiles.
                                 Lesson 21, Ex. 6-8.  For 7,8, use EXPLORE / Display BOTH to get means and boxplot.
                                 In addition, try to do an independent samples t test on the total attitude score by political party. 

May 30             10, 22-24    Exporting and Importing data. T-tests for 1 sample, paired and
                                              independent samples.
Exercises        Lesson 22, Ex. 1-4 with a test value of 2.
                        Lesson 22, Ex. 5-6 with a test value of 11.
                        Lesson 23, Ex. 1-5. Put variable labels on new variables. MUST write RESULTS section.
                        Lesson 24, Ex. 6-10. ALSO answer 7-10 for an independent samples t-test for the pretest
                                achievement score variable.

June 6            41, 31, 33   Cross-tabulations.    Correlations, Linear Regression and relevant graphs.
Exercises      Lesson 41, Ex. 4-6.  Include counts and row percents  in the table.  Do follow-up tests comparing
                              all pairs of types of  presentations using Holm's sequential Bonferroni's procedure to control Type I
                              errors.  Create a table like the one on page 375.
                      Lesson 31, Ex. 5-8. Ex. 5 and Ex. 8 says to write a results section!!
                      Lesson 33, Ex. 5-7.

June 13            25 (26)    One -way ANOVA with post hoc tests for significant tests. Reading
                      in text data with Data Wizard.  (If time, Two-way ANOVA , using syntax   for
                      post hoc tests of significant interaction effects).

Exercises      Lesson 25, Ex. 1-3. Save the residuals and test them for normality and write a RESULTS section.
                      Lesson 25, Ex. 4-6. Save the residuals and test them for normality and write a RESULTS section.
                      (Lesson 26, Ex. 1-8. Perform the appropriate post hoc tests for each data set. Save the residuals
                                and test them for normality for each data set. Write a Result section for both data sets.)

If you have NOT completed correctly 4 of 5 assignments by June 19, 5 PM, BUT have completed
correctly MORE THAN than 2 of 4 assignments, you will receive an INCOMPLETE.
If you have completed correctly 2 or fewer assignments, you will receive an F.
