Personal Philosophy of Education

“Man is the measure of all things”…Protagoras

My philosophy of education stems from this sophist notion that education must always be considered in relation to a person’s needs. Schooling as a process is responsible for the acculturation of children into society, as teachers it is our responsibility to ensure this process is free of bias and pertinent to the individual. Relevant education promotes critical thought by inspiring the student to engage in introspection about his current state and thus seek for ways to improve it. The ultimate goal is for each person to strive for their personal best within their milieu and/or niche in order to promote and create a better society.

Future Professional Goals
My professional goals include becoming a professor and a prolific educational researcher. I plan to accomplish these through my doctoral degree and the experiences and opportunities it provides. My areas of interest consist of educational policy, philosophy, behavioral studies, urban education and inclusive educational practices. Simultaneous research in these areas, in my view, can target many of the problems our educational system faces, most of wish stem from the hegemony that plagues education in the United States.
