To support the leadership development goals, FIU’s ESE doctoral program adopted an organizational structure requiring students to participate in scholarship and leadership activities beyond course work. The subject matter for these activities comes from sources that are interdisciplinary, activity-based, encourage advanced students to mentor beginning students, and reflect opportunities for progressive movement toward independent leadership and scholarship. Examples of activities include conducting professional presentations, submitting papers to professional journals, participate in district research projects, teach undergraduate courses. Back to Top Urban Special Education Teleconference Two to three times per year, students and faculty will participate in a teleconference session with experts in urban special education. The co-directors and Leadership Board members recommended experts who will be contacted and arrangements will be made for them to participate (via phone or video). Prior to the session, students will have read articles submitted by the “visiting” expert. During the teleconference guest lecture session, students will ask questions based on the readings based on the readings as part of EEX 7930. Back to Top COE Urban Center Student Associates Program COE Urban Center for Education and Innovation Student Associates Program. SEALS doctoral students will serve as Student Associates for the Center and thus participate actively in Center activities (e.g., Center symposiums/events, conducting Center research, community projects.
