Constitution of the Flying Panthers Skydiving Club of Florida International University

Preamble:
We, the members of the Flying Panthers Skydiving Club of Florida International University, hereby associate ourselves to bring together those students, faculty, staff members, administrators, alumni and friends of FIU interested in the sport of skydiving, to increase the knowledge about the sport and to make skydiving more accessible to the FIU community.

Article I: Name

The name of this organization shall be the Flying Panthers Skydiving Club at Florida International University.

Article II: Membership

Section A: The membership of this organization shall be open to all Florida International University students, staff, administrators, alumni, family members and friends of FIU who unite to promote their common interests.
Section B: The Advisor of this organization shall be an FIU full-time faculty, administrator, or staff member.
Section C: The membership fees are $10 per semester for FIU students, staff, administrators and alumni; $20 for family and community members. A student member cannot be suspended or limited to certain privileges of membership because of his/her inability to pay dues. However, members must participate in at least 50% of the activities, and attend 50% of the meetings. Having skydived or wanting to skydive is not a requirement of membership in the club.
Section D: An active member is that which: Student members: participates in at least 50% of the activities and attends at least 50% of the meetings. Faculty, staff, alumni and friends members: has paid club dues and participated in one of the activities.

Article III: Officers

Section A: The officers of this organization shall be, ranked in the order of importance; co-presidents, vice-presidents, secretaries, treasurers. There is to be one of each at each campus.
Section B: All officers shall be full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate students who have paid the Activity and Service fee and are in good academic standing.
Section C: The length of the term of office shall extend from May to May. Therefore, elections shall be held in April for the term of office from May to May.
Section D: Nominations for officers shall be from the floor, during the nomination meeting to be held the month before elections.

Article IV: Election of Officers

Section A: Officers shall be elected by all the members present at the election meeting. A majority is needed for election.
Section B: Installation of new officers shall be held in May of each year.

Article V: Duties of Officers
The officers shall perform the duties prescribed below:

Co-presidents: call and preside over club meetings, represent Flying Panthers Skydiving Club in all official capacities; serve as liaison between the club and all local and national skydiving organizations and gear businesses, oversee safety trainings for all active skydiving members.
Vice-Presidents: substitute for presidents to conduct meetings, oversee the phone tree, act as historians, and serve as the media contact for the club.
Secretaries: maintain correspondence for the club, take minutes at meetings and publish them each month for all members, responsible for notifying all members of meetings/events.
Treasurers: responsible for collection of funds, membership fees, maintain club financial records, disburse payments, deposit collected monies, report to the general membership at monthly meetings.

Article VI: Meetings

Section A: Regular meetings are held at least once a month during school year and summer months, if members are available.

Article VII: Committees

Section A: The standing committees of this organization shall be: Membership, Special Events, Publicity and Safety.
Section B: The duties of such committees shall be as follows:
  1. Membership – to maintain accurate records of members, issue membership cards;
  2. Special Events – to develop and promote special skydiving related events and trainings;
  3. Publicity – to assist the Vice-Presidents in publicizing club activities; and
  4. Safety – shall work with the presidents to organize annual safety trainings and to maintain a library of information on skydiving safety materials, and make sure that members have signed the waivers.

Article VIII: Parliamentary Authority
Roberts Rules of Order shall be used in all situations not covered by provisions of this constitution.

Article IX: Amendments

Section A: Amendments to the constitution shall be submitted to the president or committee in writing for submission to the members for a vote.
Section B: A majority vote of members present at the meeting where the amendment is being submitted shall suffice for adoption.
Section C: A copy of new amendments are to be given to the Student Activities Department no later than one week after adoption. The amendment will be placed in the Club permanent file.

Article X: Discipline
Any member may be removed by a majority vote for malfeasance, misfeasance, and/or non-feasance.

Article XI: Dissolution

Section A: This organization may be dissolved after dissolution is approved by the officers and by a majority vote of its members, provided that notice of a vote on dissolution will be taken is furnished to the members at least sixty days before the vote is taken.
Section B: This organization will have its officers’ current information pertaining to dissolution to the Student Activities Department prior to informing its membership.
Section C: Upon dissolution, the officers shall utilize the assets of the organization to pay all obligations and expenses of the organization, including those arising from dissolution and distribution. The balance, if any, shall insofar as possible, be distributed equitably among the contributing factors.
