Student Conduct Committee
The University Student Conduct Committee is comprised of one faculty member or one staff member, two student representatives and the Judicial Administrator. This hearing body is one of the formal resolution options utilized in the University Student Conduct process. The University Student Conduct Committee provides students an opportunity to be heard by “multiple ears” in situations where they
have been charged with alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct. We are seeking more students, faculty and staff to to serve in this capacity. Each year, early in the fall semester we develop a pool of faculty, staff and student leaders to serve as representatives in cases that need to be heard by the University Student Conduct Committee.
The responsibilities of a University Student Conduct Committee Hearing member include: training sessions, knowledge of the FIU Student Code of Conduct and student conduct procedures, attend scheduled hearings, (2-4 hour commitment depending upon the nature of the case and your availability), and participate in the hearing process (questioning, deliberation, and if necessary assign appropriate sanctions). To be considered, students must be in good academic standing and student conduct standing with the University and have at least a 2.5 cumulative G.P.A. If selected you will be required to complete a mandatory 2-day (eight hour each) training programming (to be completed in October). Preferences will be given to first year, sophomore and junior level students. In addition, you must attend an interview in September (to be individually scheduled)
The Student Conduct Committee is a vital part of the development of students and our community. It is important for students to have an active role in the student conduct process. Please refer to pages 9 - 29 of the Conduct and Policies section in the FIU Student Handbook for additional information.
Faculty or staff are not required to complete an application, however, they must attend mandatory training sessions in order to serve. Please forward the names of any interested faculty or staff members to the Director, Karen A. Dlhosh.
Students, if you are interested in serving on the University Student Conduct Committee please download the application form below and return it to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution by the deadline on the form. Selected students will be contacted regarding interviews
and training sessions.
