Description: An introduction to basic concepts, computations and applications in Calculus. The course deals with techniques and applications of the derivative and an introduction to the integral.
Prerequisite: Trigonometry or MAC 2147: Precalculus

Material to be covered: Chapters (sections)1 (1,3,4,5,6,8), 2 (1-6), 3 (1-8), 4 (1-4), 5 (1-5, 7), 6 (2,3), 11 (1.8 then 11.2).

Tests and quizzes:

There will be two midterms, worth 100 points each, five (5) quizzes worth 10 points each and a comprehensive final examination worth 150 points. The dates are for the midterms are Oct. 01 and Nov. 12. For the quizzes, the dates are Sept. 03, Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Oct. 29, Nov. 26. The date for the final examination is Friday, Dec. 12, 2008; 12:00PM-2:00PM. There are no make-up midterms or quizzes. With a valid, verifiable reason for missing a midterm, a waiver may be granted for the missed test. The final exam cannot be waived. An incomplete grade may be assigned upon presentation of a valid, verifiable reason for missing the scheduled test. The make-up final examination should be taken during the next week of finals at at the end of the following semester.

Grades: Grades will be assigned on the basis of 400 points.
