Florida International University is a member of the Florida State University System and is located in Miami, the population and cultural center of the state. Although the university admitted its first class only 25 years ago, it has quickly advanced in size (over 30,000 students) and status. The university strives has been classified as a Research I university and has invested intelligently in talented faculty and research resources in its effort to achieve this goal. The College of Arts & Sciences has doctoral programs in Biology, Computer Science, Economics, Geology, History, International Relations, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology, master's programs in several additional fields, and an external grant budget of about $40 million per year. The Department of Psychology has 25 faculty representing the domains of Clinical, Cognitive, Community, Developmental, Industrial/Organizational, Legal, and Social Psychology. With 25 faculty, 2 post-doctoral research associates, 30 graduate teaching and research assistants, 100 graduate majors, and 1400 undergraduate majors, Psychology is one of the university's most productive departments.
