Markus Thiel, Ph.D. International Studies, University of Miami
Markus Thiel graduated in 2005 with a Ph.D. from the University of Miami. His dissertation, titled “The EU after Maastricht – Politics of Integration and their impact on national attitudes and a civic European identity” is currently being developed into a book manuscript. A native of Germany, he previously worked as an EU-Socrates/Erasmus exchange coordinator at the University of Applied Sciences Munich and began his US- studies as a recipient of the Fulbright scholarship.
His research interests are European Union Politics, Nationalism & Identity (politics), Political Sociology, European Security and Mixed Methods Research Methodology. He has published several EU-related articles and book chapters at the EU Center, University of Miami, as well as in Transatlantic Monthly and the Tamkang Journal of International Affairs. Currently, he teaches Comparative Politics, Comparative Western European & European Union Politics and is working on an edited volume (with Roger Coate) on identity politics.
