Guiding Goals


The Professional Development Center at Florida International University has identified guiding goals such as:

  • The provision of quality, competency-based training that enhances the professional development of Family Safety staff and the child protection community at large.
  • The provision of professional services to Family Safety staff that address identified needs in the form of direct training, technical assistance, coaching, and case consultation.
  • The development of relevant in-service training for all child protection staff that is directly responsive to the priority needs of the Department of Children and Families and the individual districts.
  • The involvement of subject matter experts, supervisors, and managers in training delivery in order to enhance the relevancy and applicability of training and to build on the university/public partnership.
  • The development of an effective network of field instructional staff that provides a connection between classroom training and best practice in the field experience.
  • The delivery of relevant symposia and workshops targeted to child protection workers and service providers within the catchment area.
