Welcome to the Panther Family, and congratulations on your student’s acceptance at Florida International University! We are excited about the many opportunities that await all of our students, and attending Orientation will be a wonderful time to meet the faculty, administrators and staff who will be working with your student during her/his college career.
Maybe this is your first student to attend college, or maybe you're an "old pro" at the college process. Either way, you're probably a little apprehensive about sending this student to college. As a family member of an FIU student, you play a vital role in your student’s transition into the university. With that in mind, we offer a special Orientation for parents who want to get a first-hand look at FIU and its resources.
The Office of Orientation and Commuter Student Services offers a two-day, comprehensive orientation program for our incoming freshmen and their family members. Parent Orientation, which runs concurrently with the two-day Freshman Orientation, is designed to provide you with important information about FIU, its academic programs, student support services, financial aid and payment policies, rhythms of college life, unique challenges for new students, and many other topics. Members of the administration, faculty, staff, and current student leaders will be on hand to answer all your questions and help guide you, too, through your student's transition from high school to college life.
We would love to have you attend Parent Orientation this summer! You can direct your student to the Orientation Web site to find information about registering through PantherSoft, where she or he can place both parent and student reservations for Orientation.
If you have further questions, please contact the Orientation office at parent@fiu.edu, or at 305-348-6414, and we will be happy to assist you.
We look forward to seeing you at Orientation!
