The Performance Outcomes Measures Project (POMP)

The Performance Outcomes Measures Project (POMP) has been sponsored by the Administration on Aging (AoA) to develop performance based measures for evaluating Title III services. Another goal is to develop a prototype system for recording and reporting agency level information. POMP is a multi-agency collaboration involving state and local agencies on aging, AoA, Westat and consultants.
*The Nutritional Risk Survey, which has been developed for this project, is a tool for measuring a client's current nutritional risk. It includes items from the Nutritional Screening Initiative (NSI) and the Household Food Security Scale. It provides a quantitative look at the kinds and amount of foods the client is eating and provides the ability to monitor small changes in food behavior, such as the increase of one additional serving of fruits and vegetables. The 2001 survey instrument differs slightly from the 2000 version. There is now one question on food security and a question on fluid intake was added. Also available: *Survey Materials for 2001 and 2000.

The Nutrition Screening Initiative

The Nutrition Screening Initiative is a broad multi-disciplinary effort led by The American Academy of Family Physicians, The American Dietetic Association, The National Council on the Aging, Inc. and a diverse coalition of over 25 national health, aging and medical organizations. Founded in 1989, the Initiative's goal is to accelerate the incorporation of nutrition screening and intervention into the nation's health care delivery system for older Americans. The Initiative views every point of health care for an elderly person as an opportunity to enhance cost-effective nutrition care. To this end, the Initiative formed alliances with professionals working in nutrition, dentistry, pharmacology, mental health, managed care, home care, and community social services. The Initiative implements a multi-faceted strategy that includes research, professional education, consumer outreach and policy.
