Orchestral Studies Program

 

For admission into the Orchestral Program the student shall demonstrate a gift of music, an aptitude for a given instrument and personal characteristics that indicate the possibility of continuous further development to achieve a career of the highest level. All FIU music students are sure to find within the program others who share their interests.

An important reason for FIU's reputation is the quality of its faculty members.

Additionally, master classes and workshops, given by renowned visiting artists, are a special part of the curriculum.

The Orchestra Program is carefully divided into two areas. The first, performing, includes a carefully selected set of division forums and School of Music student recitals which give students the opportunity to perform solo repertoire in front of their peers under the supervision of the instructor. The other area is the preparation of orchestral playing.

The FIU Orchestral Program has two performing ensembles: The String Orchestra and The Symphony Orchestra. The repertoire of these ensembles covers the spectrum of sound from Baroque to contemporary compositions.

The soloists at concerts of both orchestras are students and internationally acclaimed artists, exposed to a wide variety of sounds. These concerts all take place within the marvelous concert facilities of the Wertheim Performing Arts Center.

 

 

String Studies Program

 

The undergraduate program requires students to supplement their music studies with a prescribed number of courses in the Liberal Arts area. The program normally requires four years to complete.

The Strings Studies Program is designed to develop talented students into skilled professional performers.

Through the performance of etudes, studies, and standard solo chamber music and orchestra literature, string players are given a wide variety opportunities to develop their talents. Harp and guitar programs are designed to develop skilled performers with standard solo, ensemble and orchestral literature .

Through the study of standard and 20th Century techniques, etudes, studies and wide variety of solo, chamber music and orchestra literature, they are given numerous opportunities to have their skills in solo and ensemble performance.
