Graduation Requirements

To remain in good standing and to qualify for graduation, students must maintain a graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher. A grade of "B" or higher must be received for all core courses. All MM course requirements must be met and a thesis must be completed and accepted after defending before their Thesis Committee. All requirements for the MM in Music Technology, including the successful defense of the thesis, must be completed within six (6) years of enrollment in the graduate program.

School of Music Forms A, B, and C/College of Arts and Sciences Form C

At the beginning of the semester prior to graduation students should, in consultation with the Director of the Music Technology area, select a thesis committee of 3 members. At that time School of Music form A must be filled out by the student along with its attachment showing all thesis work to be done. The executed form must be filed with the graduate secretary for the School of Music by midterm of the semester. During the first week of the semester in which the student is graduating, College of Arts and Sciences form C must be filled out, signed by the committee and other faculty as indicated, and filed with the Dean's Office for the College of Arts and Sciences. One month prior to the oral defense, the student must fill out School of Music form B and have it executed and filed with the graduate secretary for the School of Music. After the successful defense the student must fill out and execute School of Music form C which must be turned in to the graduate secretary for the School of Music with the final paper and related materials for delivery to the library.

The Thesis Paper

The thesis paper will be bound with the score by the library. As with the score, the layout for the paper must be done in compliance with the requirements set forth by the Graduate Studies Office for the university. The analytical methodology and ultimate length of the paper must be approved by the committee. Proper endnotes and bibliography must be included. Graduation Requirements

To remain in good standing and to qualify for graduation, students must maintain a graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher. A grade of "B" or higher must be received for all core music courses.

The requirements for a B.M. with an emphasis in music technology include, in addition to the required general music courses, (1) a "B" average in all upper and lower division Theory, Ear Training, and Electronic Music courses (MIDI Technology, Electronic Music I–IV), (2) the completition of a senior thesis project of hardware, software, sound design, or audio installation, and (3) the passing of a final oral exam.

SENIOR THESIS PROJECT
All Music Technology majors are required to develop a Senior Thesis Project before graduation. The project may include, but is not limited to, software or hardware design, significant web development, CD-ROM or DVD production, sound installation, or sound design. The project must be submitted to the Music Technology Advisor for approval the semester prior to intended graduation. The student should be enrolled in MUS 4910 Research with major professor is required during the semester of graduation. The student is required to have at least three members of the FIU faculty on a committee to oversee the progress of the thesis project. These committee members are not limited to the School of Music faculty, but may include related areas such as computer science, art and art history, or physics.

FINAL ORAL EXAMINATION
A final oral exam testing the students knowledge of electro-acoustic music history and techniques is conducted by the Music Technology faculty, and will be administered after the student’s Senior Thesis is completed and presented. The student must pass this exam in order to complete the requirements of the Music Technology area.
As required by the College of Arts and Sciences, the final requirement to complete the Music Technology track requires the student to take at least 9 credits outside of the School of Music during their last two years. It is recommended that courses be taken in interdisciplinary studies such as computer science, art and art history, or physics.
