Music History Survey Sequence & Graduate Music History Review
All FIU music majors whose calendar year of entry is 2007 or later are required to take MUH 3211, 3212, 3213, & 3214, with exceptions noted below. Students whose calendar year of entry is prior to 2007 are required to take MUH 3211, 3212, & 3213, with exceptions noted below. As is the case with the Music Theory sequence, these courses may not be taken out of sequence. The Music History sequence begins anew every fall semester so that during fall semesters, Music History Survey I (MUH 3211) and Music History Survey III (MUH 3213) are offered and during the spring semester Music History Survey II (MUH 3212) and Music History Survey IV (MUH 3214) are offered.
Jazz Majors
The music history requirement for Jazz majors differs from those of other majors according to the catalog in the year of entry.
Fall of 2005 entry: MUH 3212 & 3213 only, but may elect to substitute MUH 3211 for MUH 3213
Fall of 2006 entry: MUH 3211 & 3212 only
Fall of 2007 entry: MUH 3211, MUH 3212, MUH 3213, and MUH 3214, but replace MUH 3214 with MUH 3813 History of Afro-Cuban Jazz if it is available. Otherwise, they must take MUH 3214.

Music of the World (Ethnomusicology)
Al music majors must take MUH 3052 Music of the World. MUH 3052/5057 Music of the World is offered every spring semester. There is no prerequisite for this course and it may be taken concurrently with any Music History Survey or Graduate Music History Review class.
Music History Seminar/Special Topics in Music History
MUH 4680 Music History Seminar/MUH 6937 Special Topics in Music History is offered once every year, either in the fall or spring semester. The topic is most often related to Performance Practice.
