Successful completion of this degree program leads to Teacher Certification by the State of Florida for Music PreK - 12. Each student is solely responsible for meeting all requirements listed in their entry year catalogue.

 

To qualify for admission to the Music Education Program all incoming students must complete the following:

 

  1. Acceptance into the School of Music
  2. Entrance interview and advising by the Music Education Program Director
  3. Successfully completed all Gordon Rule requirements of the General Education curriculum
  4. Received a minimum score of 960 on the SAT or 20 on the ACT
  5. Successfully completed the CLAST examination
  6.

 

Maintained a 2.5 General/Core curriculum GPA and a 3.0 School of Music curriculum GPA

All incoming Freshmen must complete 36 hours in the General Curriculum. This includes:

Completion of all requirements leads to the awarding of the Master of Science in Music Education Degree. Each student has sole responsibility for completion of all requirements for the degree listed in the entry year catalogue.

For admission to the program, the student must:

Possess an undergraduate degree is Music Education (B.S., B.A., or B,MEd) from an accredited institution

2.

Apply to the Graduate School of the University.

3.

Apply to the Director of Music Education. This application must include:

A. Letter of application
B. Resume
C. Statement of Philosophy of Music Education. This must be at least one page, typed/double-spaced.

4.

Take the GRE

5.

Take the Graduate Theory and Music History Placement Examinations *

* If a deficiency is determined in either Theory or Music History as a result of these examinations, remedial coursework will be prescribed by the Director of Music Education in addition to the music elective component of the program of study.
