Piano Performance           Organ Performance

Undergraduate Program in Piano Performance

Audition Requirements

All piano majors and principals are required to perform an audition for acceptance into the Piano Program. The results of this audition will determine the specific entry level in applied music and scholarship recommendation. All works are to be performed from memory. Personal or videotaped auditions accepted.

I. Technique

A. All major and harmonic minor scales and arpeggios, four octaves

II. Repertoire

A. Baroque: A Prelude and Fugue from J.S. Bach Well-Tempered Clavier
B. Classical: A movement from a Classical Period Sonata (e.g. Mozart or Beethoven)
C. Romantic: A substantial composition from the works of such composers as Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Brahams and Rachmaninoff
D. 20th Century: One work from the 20th Century Repertoire

III. Sight-reading

The applicant must show a certain proficiency in sight-reading. The basic competency level consists of simple homophonic pieces in close position.

 

Graduate Program in Piano Performance

Entrance Requirements

I. Bachelor of Music Degree

II. 3.0 Grade Point Average during last two years of study

III. Successful audition

Audition Requirements

I. All works must be performed by memory

A. Baroque: One work of J.S. Bach
B. Classical: One sonata of Beethoven (except Opus 49)
C. Romantic: One large important work of the Romantic repertoire
D. 20th Century: One published work of the 20th Century repertoire

Undergraduate Program in Organ Performance

Audition Requirements

All organ majors and principals are required to perform an audition for acceptance into the Organ Program. The results of this audition will determine the specific entry level in applied music and scholarship recommendation. Memorized auditions are encouraged but not required.

Students with little or no formal organ training may elect to audition on piano. Personal or videotaped auditions accepted.

I. Technique

A. All major and harmonic minor scales and arpeggios, four octaves (piano.) Pedal scales as requested.

II. Repertoire

Three works of contrasting style and tempi, one by J.S. Bach.

III. Sight-reading

The applicant will be asked to sight read a simple homophonic pieces in close position.

 

Graduate Program in Organ Performance

Entrance Requirements

I. Bachelor of Music degree in Organ performance or its demonstrated equivalent.

II. 3.0 Grade Point Average during last two years of study.

III. Successful interview and audition.

Audition Requirements

I. A prepared program of no more than 30 minutes, preferably memorized including a major work of J.S. Bach (Free Work or Trio Sonata,) and two other works of contrasting styles and periods (one lyrical and one virtuosic.)
