Many ensembles are available for students to participate in.

They include three big bands, a Latin ensemble and seven jazz combos.

The FIU Jazz Band is a big band that specializes in the performance of the full range of jazz music from the traditional to the contemporary. Combining excellence in ensemble playing and individual improvising the group has received high praise from jazz educators and professionals. The band is made up of FIU students from throughout the world, most of whom are already jazz professionals in their own right.

The outstanding FIU Jazz Band has gained visibility at national and international jazz festivals and conferences for the past five years. They have traveled extensively throughout the USA, Central and South America and were featured in a week-long appearance on the SS Norway Jazz Cruise. The most recent recording by the FIU Jazz Band is FIU Jazz, Hot & Cool.
