Bachelor of Music in Composition Admission Guidelines Students must be admitted into the university and the School of Music before admission into the composition program is possible. Entrance into the university is contingent upon SAT scores and overall GPA in High School, while entrance into the School of Music is determined by audition. After a student is admitted into the university and the School of Music, admission into the composition program is contingent upon the approval of the composition area director and faculty, and is dependent upon the performance of the student in Composition I and II and/or the students portfolio of works. Although there may be some exceptions native Freshman students should consider taking the first semester of Composition I during the beginning of their Sophomore year after completing one year of Theory and Sightsinging/Ear Training. |

Master of Music in Composition Admission Guidelines Admission into the composition program is contingent upon the approval of the composition faculty and is dependent upon the applicant's portfolio and previous undergraduate course work. A minimum 3.0 GPA in the students last 60 credits of undergraduate work is also required for admittance. After initial admission to the program, students will be required to pass history and theory placement tests or if necessary do remedial work in these areas. The requirements for the MM in composition include, in addition to the above listed courses the presentation of a Masters Composition Recital, the successful completion of a Master's Thesis project (including a research/analytical paper as well as a composition), and the passing of a final oral exam.
