Voice Audition Information

In order to be admitted to the FIU School of Music, you must first be admitted to the university and then successfully audition for the School of Music.  Admission to the university is very selective and you are urged to submit your application as early as possible. 

Music auditions for the 2009/2010 academic year will take place on the following dates:

Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 9:00 am (for January, 2009, admission).  
Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 9:00 am  
Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 9:00 am
(last day for scholarship consideration).
Saturday, April 4, at 9:00 am


High School Applicants:  two art songs in at least two different languages.

Transfer audition requirements are as follows:

Sophomore-level Applicants:  minimum three art songs in two different languages.
Junior-level Applicants: minimum four art songs in three different languages.      
Senior-level Applicants
: minimum five art songs or arias in three different languages.

Prospective Graduate students:  minimum of five arias and/or art songs representing a minimum of four languages, periods and styles.

All songs must be memorized. A pianist will be provided for you.

NOTE: Part of the audition will involve a sight-singing examination (for all students) and a theory diagnostic examination (for undergraduate candidates only).

PLEASE WEAR APPROPRIATE ATTIRE!

IMPORTANT NOTE:  The Division of Vocal Studies has a very rigorous training program that emphasizes traditional, “classical” vocal technique.  It is assumed that you are now studying with a qualified voice teacher.  If not, you are strongly urged to find a voice teacher who can help you prepare for this audition.  If you need assistance in finding a teacher to help you prepare for your audition, contact Prof. Dundas at the email address below and he will be happy to assist you.
