Welcome to the School of Music at Florida International University in Miami!  We offer a rigorous, first-class professional musical education on a spectacular tropical campus in one of the world's most vibrant cities. Our 26 full-time academic and artist faculty and 44 adjunct faculty members serve over 300 music majors from 18 countries. As a member of the College of Architecture + The Arts, the FIU School of Music participates in a diverse program of groundbreaking interdisciplinary education and is devoted to the creative spirit in the pursuit of knowledge and the cultivation of imagination, intellectual curiosity, and artistic expression. Among the nation's 25 largest universities, FIU is ranked as a Research University in the High Research Activity category of the Carnegie Foundation’s prestigious classification system.

The FIU School of Music offers a Bachelor of Music with concentrations in several performance areas as well as in composition, jazz, and music technology. For those students interested in crafting a plan of study tailored to their own particular musical interests or career goals, we provide the flexible and multi-disciplinary Bachelor of Arts, which accommodates concentrations in a variety of areas including Music Education.  At the graduate level, the FIU School of Music offers a Master of Science in Music Education and a Master of Music in all of the BM areas listed above, with the addition of conducting. The graduate core classes are scheduled in the evening to serve the needs of graduate students with daytime obligations. Detailed information about all of these programs can be found under "Academic Programs" on the menu to your left. The FIU School of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

Residing in the $14.5 million Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center, the FIU School of Music presents over 100 concerts each year in the outstanding acoustics of the beautiful 600-seat Wertheim Concert Hall with its 74-rank Schantz pipe organ considered by many to be the finest in the Southeast United States, with smaller events taking place in the more intimate 150-seat Recital Hall. The Wertheim Performing Arts Center also houses practice rooms, instrumental rehearsal halls, computer music studios, faculty teaching studios, and a brand new organ studio containing a two-manual Schlicher practice pipe organ courtesy of a generous donation from Herbert and Nicole Wertheim, and an early music instrument collection that includes a double-manual transposing Flemish harpsichord, an archlute, and many other fine instruments.

A dynamic community of scholars who publish in respected national and international journals and artists who perform in prestigious venues throughout the world, the FIU School of Music faculty are all dedicated teachers fully committed to preparing you for a professional career in music. Our student ensembles described in the menu to your left have toured South and Central America, the East Coast and the Midwest, been featured on cruise ships, and have recorded with many well-known artists.  The Golden Panther Marching Band provides entertainment at FIU's NCAA Division I home football games. Workshops and master classes by internationally-acclaimed artists such as George Crumb, Lukas Foss, Richard Stoltzman, Murray Perahia, and FIU artist-in-residence Arturo Sandoval round out a robust educational experience.

Please take some time to peruse the FIU School of Music web page for more detailed information on our faculty, curriculum, ensembles, and performance opportunities. We look forward to helping you realize your dreams!
